Discordance between Train-of-Four Response and Clinical Symptoms in a Patient with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

    Get PDF
A 47-year-old woman with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis was scheduled for total thyroidectomy with cervical node dissection. During anesthetic management by total intravenous anesthesia using remifentanil, propofol, and rocuronium, train-of-four (TOF) monitoring findings were not consistent with clinical signs. Sugammadex successfully reversed shallow respiration

REACTION CHARACTERISTICS OF TWO WATER GAS SHIFT CATALYSTS IN A BUBBLING FLUIDIZED BED REACTOR FOR SEWGS PROCESS

    Get PDF
Reaction characteristics of two WGS catalysts for SEWGS process were investigated in a bubbling fluidized bed reactor. The commercial low temperature WGS catalyst produced by Süd-chemie and new catalyst produced by spray-drying method were used as bed materials. Reaction temperature, steam/CO ratio, and gas velocity were considered as experimental variables. Moreover, long-term operation results of two WGS catalysts were compared as well

THE HOT GAS DESULFURIZATION IN A COMPACT TWO BEDS SYSTEM INTEGRATED WITH COAL GASIFICATION AND FISHER-TROPSCH SYSTEM

The hot gas desulfurization (HGD) technique is one of the elemental technologies of syngas purification having both thermal efficiency and very low emissions. The HGD is a novel method to efficiently remove H2S and COS in the syngas with regenerable sorbents at high temperature and high pressure condition. We propose a compact hot gas desulfurization system by which its operability is improved in stabilizing pressure balances among units. The proposed compact two beds system has two bubbling beds, solid injection nozzle, solid conveying line, and riser. The compact desulfurization system was located between coal gasifier and Fisher-Tropsch (F-T) reactor to desulfurize syngas in order not to deactivate F-T catalyst. To check feasibility of the compact desulfurization system at high pressure condition, both cold mode and hot mode tests have been performed. In the integrated system, the compact desulfurization system has removed H2S and COS in the syngas and supplied the cleaned syngas to the F-T reactor during the continuous operation at high pressure condition

Class-Attentive Diffusion Network for Semi-Supervised Classification

    Get PDF
Recently, graph neural networks for semi-supervised classification have been widely studied. However, existing methods only use the information of limited neighbors and do not deal with the inter-class connections in graphs. In this paper, we propose Adaptive aggregation with Class-Attentive Diffusion (AdaCAD), a new aggregation scheme that adaptively aggregates nodes probably of the same class among K-hop neighbors. To this end, we first propose a novel stochastic process, called Class-Attentive Diffusion (CAD), that strengthens attention to intra-class nodes and attenuates attention to inter-class nodes. In contrast to the existing diffusion methods with a transition matrix determined solely by the graph structure, CAD considers both the node features and the graph structure with the design of our class-attentive transition matrix that utilizes a classifier. Then, we further propose an adaptive update scheme that leverages different reflection ratios of the diffusion result for each node depending on the local class-context. As the main advantage, AdaCAD alleviates the problem of undesired mixing of inter-class features caused by discrepancies between node labels and the graph topology. Built on AdaCAD, we construct a simple model called Class-Attentive Diffusion Network (CAD-Net). Extensive experiments on seven benchmark datasets consistently demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed method and our CAD-Net significantly outperforms the state-of-the-art methods. Dynamic Changes in Maritime Research Capability in Chinese Universities

    Get PDF
This study determines the top fifty authors in China and their university affiliations in the maritime transportation field, compared to their world ranking. We refer to China in the broad sense of the Chinese economies, including not only mainland China and Hong Kong, but also Chinese Taipei (Taiwan) and Singapore. This study analyzes sixty-five SSCI and SCI journals in the field of maritime and transportation between the years 2000 and 2015. In terms of ranking, three indicators are employed: total number of articles, weighted score (indication of author contribution), and the impact score. With the exception of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, no other universities selected in the first phase of Project 985, which received billions of dollars in government support/aid, were listed in the world ranking. Star authors are deemed to have contributed greatly to the rankings of their affiliated universities. The future of China’s rankings is bright in view of the increasing number of papers being published by Chinese authors and universities and their strong grounding in quantitative methodologies. Application of PEEP using the i-gel during volume-controlled ventilation in anesthetized, paralyzed patients

PURPOSE: This prospective, randomized trial was designed to assess whether the i-gel supraglottic airway device is suitable for volume-controlled ventilation while applying positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) of 5 cmH(2)O under general anesthesia. It was believed that this device might improve arterial oxygenation. METHODS: Forty adult patients (aged 20–60 years) scheduled for elective orthopedic surgery were enrolled in this study. Twenty patients were ventilated without external PEEP [zero positive end-expiratory pressure (ZEEP) group], and the other 20 were ventilated with PEEP 5 cmH(2)O (PEEP group) after placing an i-gel device. Volume-controlled ventilation at a tidal volume (TV) of 8 ml/kg of ideal body weight, leak volume, and arterial blood gas analysis were investigated. RESULTS: The incidences of a significant leak were similar in the ZEEP and PEEP groups (3/20 and 1/20, respectively; P = 0.605), as were leak volumes. No significant PaO(2) difference was observed between the two groups at 1 h after satisfactory i-gel insertion (215 ± 38 vs. 222 ± 54; P = 0.502). CONCLUSIONS: The use of an i-gel during PEEP application at 5 cmH(2)O did not increase the incidence of a significant air leak, and a PEEP of 5 cmH(2)O failed to improve arterial oxygenation during controlled ventilation in healthy adult patients
